I am the very pleased new owner of an ACA…an aircraft in the normal category. I am also a retired USAF C-130 driver and retired FedEx MD-11 guy. (Hated that). I fly Med-Evac King Air BE90 now. Sooooo, after 35 years removed from instructing acrobatic flight “contact” training sorties in the venerable T-37, I find myself hankering for some light “clearing maneuvers”.
I am not suggesting barrel and aileron rolls maybe the occasional Immelmann. Those are clearly defined as aerobatic!
Yes I know, I know, I know… however. Are there folks out there with a similar itch? And if so, do you scratch it?
I own a very well cared-for, very low-time, recently manufactured aircraft with no G-maneuvering history at all. Not saying I would perform ANYTHING prohibited or not authorized by the FARs or manufacturer…
Just curious about what other similarly afflicted old timers think on that!
Done. Just not all ACA. But the 8GCBC seems to me to be quite capable of remaining within the “normal” category load limits for “upset training” when piloted with judicious inputs.
show of hands please…
They’re all good, it just depends on your primary mission. The best answer is a big hangar with a quiver of different models.
Hey Dave,
i walked a similar path to yours prior to getting my lightly used 8KCAB. My recommendation is to get a couple parachutes and jump all the way in to the deep end. It’s fun!! This is a very capable airplane and will provide you enormous pleasure. Going a little beyond that I’d recommend joining IAC and go fly in some contests! Last year I went to the National Championships and placed a respectable 14th. Not bad for my first attempt. I predict you’ll love it.
