Looking at the TCDS for a 1969 7GCBC... section XX. There are 4 notes for landing gear configuration and those allow different tires sizes including 6.00-6 4 ply or 6 ply, 7.00-6 6-ply, 8.00-6 4 ply. 2 of these apply to spring steel gear with Cleveland brakes. Then there are specifications for installation drawings... 7-1307, 7-1291,7-1404 or 4-2038. Note 201 (h) does't allow 6.00-6 4 ply but 201 (i) does.
The question is how do I know which if any of these configurations he has? I have the original equipment list but it isn't listed there. The airplane has 6.00-6 4-ply tires but it came with 7.00-6 6-ply. Trying to make sure my client is legal here. Help! Thanks!
The steel gear installation drawing is 7-1307. Drawings 7-1291, 7-1404, and 4-2038 reference gear legs. 7-1291 legs have a straight taper; 7-1404 and 4-2038 are necked above the axle. The legs get progressively longer to provide propeller clearance at higher weights. A 1969 should have the 7-1291 legs; the 7-1404 legs were introduced in 1970, and 4-2038 in 2003.
ACA may or may not have a copy of the old revision 7-1307 drawing - the TCDS and parts manual may be your best source of information for the 1969 model. The current revision of 7-1307 allows for 6.00x6, 7.00x6, 8.00x6, and 8.50x6 tires (the drawing uses the aluminum axle; disk and axle spacers are required for the 8.00x6 and 8.50x6 tires).
